“Ewa Agoyin” The Best Food for Hair Growth and Length Retention!

Hey guys!

I know some of your are giving me the side eye right now just by reading the caption but yes… I’m dead serious.. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Beans porridge known as “Akoti” in my local dialect, Ibibio, and popularly known as “Ewa Agoyin” by the Yoruba folks and most Nigerians is eaten all over Nigeria.

(The type of beans used to prepare this porridge is the black eyed pea(beans).)

However, most people do not really know the benefits of eating beans and the good it can do to your hair.

As a lover of beans, specifically, the Ewa Agoyin, I’ve been eating it everyday as my breakfast for more than a month now, yes every single day. This is because, there’s a Togolese woman who cooks delicious Ewa Agoyin beside my hostel where i stay.

Little did i know that it was making my hair and nails! stronger…

My nails grow pretty fast but break off easily once they get close to 2 inches because its very soft. Once i put it in water, or the t gets caught in fabric.. That’s the end of it.

But this past month, i even forgot that i had long nails as I’ve been washing with it without any break. I sat down one day and looked at my nails and wondered why they hadn’t broken off yet or hadn’t become soft.

It just clicked… Beans!!!

I did a bit of research and i found this excerpt from blackdoctor.org:

If you are on the lookout for a simple and natural boost for your hair, try incorporating more beans into your diet. They are a great source of vitamin B6 and folic acid, magnesium, sulfur, zinc and biotin. All of these nutrients promote shiny, strong, moisturized hair that grows. Biotin, specifically, is known to boost the hair growth rate if regularly added into your daily diet. In fact, the American Diabetes Association recommends a serving of three cups of beans per week!

Also

Beans are wonderfully versatile legumes that come in different shapes, sizes, and colors. Yet, they are all tasty and highly nutritious. They should also be an integral part of any hair-care nutritional plan. Beans pack a protein punch to promote hair growth, but they are also a great source of hair friendly vitamins and minerals such as iron, zinc, and biotin. Biotin is particularly important to people with brittle hair. If your diet is currently low in beans, it is best to add them gradually as they may initially cause intestinal gas.

Beans contain biotin, iron and these are the most essential nutrients for hair growth.

My hair has bounced back so quickly and i must say i live the way my nails are looking stronger!

So if you’re looking for healthy foods that could possibly grow your hair and strengthen your hair, eat beans…or Ewa Agoyin! πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Do you eat beans a lot? If yes, does it help with hair or nail growth? If no, why?

  2. After reading your post I went to check recipes and pictures(I dunno who sent me). I’m salivating right now, a friend of mine made it once and I think it got burnt so I didn’t enjoy it,other than that I haven’t tasted authentic Ewa Agoyin. It’s definitely on my to do list now and I sure am glad that it has all those benefits for hair.

    1. Yay! Chai! If you were in my area, you will definitely eat everyday. Togo people prepare it very well. All you have to do is add enough water because when mashed, it soaks up all the excess water. Thanks so much for reading and commenting 😍😍
