- Hey Chulas 😊😊
If you fall under this category of naturalistas, do not be afraid for I’m with you… I fall under this category too! 😀
This picture was taken off guard, i was trying to tease the ends of my dry hair with an Afro pick comb 😂😂😂
My hair, in its natural state, is very coarse, kinky and dry.
This alone leads to tangling, brittleness and excessive dryness as there’s no adequate moisture to go down the strands and smooth it.
Naturalistas with dry hair do not produce enough sebum to go down the length of their hair and moisturize it hence the feel of dryness or brittleness.
Sebum is a natural oil that is produced from the scalp to moisturize and prevent the scalp and hair from dryness.
Some people naturally don’t produce enough sebum thats enough for the hair while some people have issues due to illnesses or hormonal imbalances.
That’s why it’s good to eat healthy foods and vegetables that contain adequate vitamins that can maintain or substitute for what the body needs or has lost.
Now back to the main issue,
Dry hair can be very hard to deal with especially if you experience tons of shrinkage like me. Shrinkage is when the hair coils inwards and then looks way shorter than it actually is if stretched out.
So to deal with dry hair you need to:
- Embrace the Shrinkage!
Healthy hair and not long hair should be your goal. If your hair is adequately moisturised it’ll definitely grow
Moisture is water and water causes hair to shrink but the hair needs the water as it’s first source of moisture.

- Always have a spritz bottle handy
You should always have a spritz bottle in your bag. Your spritz bottle should contain a mixture of 60% water,25% leave in conditioner and 15% oil(any oil of your choice)
This recipe is specifically for those with dry hair. You’ll love it, your hair will feel bouncy and moisturised.
- Make sure your hair is always detangled!
If you’re still not too good with water, you can try water based products always
Detangled your hair properly and always leave hair in twists
Tangling on dry hair just worsens the issue and leads to breakage each time you try to detangle. Leave your hair in braids or twists to reduce tangling
Hair detangled and put in puff twists
- Use the LOC method
After i use water and my KinkCHIC Stimulating Hair Growth Elixir to massage my scalp. I use these two products to seal in the moisture.
KinkCHIC’s Moisturizing Natural Hair Growth Butter and Protectiv Leave in Conditioner
Read on how to do the LOC method here!
- Include more moisture treatments than protein treatments in your regimen
Your dryness could be as a result of protein overload
Do more of moisture deep conditioning treatments and stretch your protein treatments for 2 months or 3.
Avocado is very good for a moisture deep conditioning treatment and so far it’s the best moisturising deep conditioner I’ve used.
Just mash up the Avocado after taking it out. Add a good moisturizing oil. I use Sesame Oil.
Apply to your hair and leave overnight.. I leave mine overnight. Rinse off with water only and seal properly.

- Wear a Satin bonnet to sleep
This is one of the best things you can do for your dry hair.
A satin bonnet helps to prevent the moisture from being soaked up by the cotton bed sheets. It also helps to generate the GHE as bodily heat generated will help moisturize the hair further.
I just started wearing a hair bonnet to sleep and i hope to see better results in my hair.
These are just a few tips and i hope they help you.
