SO…
Today,i present our wonderful lady with the ‘HEAD OF HAIR’ 😀
Hey there bae..
It’s great having you on here! Can you tell us about you?
I’m Chidera Hopewell Stephen .
A Nigerian but I live in Ghana. I’m 19 and in level 300 currently studying communication studies. smile emoticon
Wow.. 19. So you’re actually a teen like me! I’m so overjoyed. I wouldn’t have guessed you were 19! Never mind. So..let’s get down to it. Chidera, tell us about your hair journey. What made you go natural?
Hehehe kiss emoticon teenagers rock yahh like emoticon ..
I went natural beginning of 2014 and had my hair big chopped on January . So my hair is now 18months old a.k.a 1 year and 6months !! ..
Before then I had relaxers about 4 times and just couldn’t cope with my hair .. It was still standing ..lol and didn’t want to fall like relaxed hairs and people always thought my hair was natural then . .Guess my hair was just stubborn n thick smile emoticon
The reason why I went natural .. Uhmm ..
Maybe because I saw how beautiful natural hair can be and how unique it feels .. I also wanted to prove my friends wrong .. Lol ..
They believed I couldn’t manage my 4c texture .. I had to do it because I can .. Also .. I wanted to avoid the dangers relaxers posed to my health smile emoticon since then .. I haven’t regretted it tho. As it has become my trademark lol .. On campus ..
Hahaha..that’s a good one. So,how do you take care of your hair? I know its hard maintaining 4c hair especially..dense hair. How do you manage your hair?
4c hair is the excuse many African ladies hide behind when using relaxers .. It is very dense and experiences high shrinkage frown emoticon .. Lol
But .. I wash every week or two weeks .. Depending on my schedule .. I try to deep condition once every two months ..
I do protective styling mostly with my own hair and sometimes with extensions.. I use my whipped Shea butter to nourish my hair smile emoticon I use a leave in conditioner sometimes.. I keep it simple and water .. Yeah .. Drink lots of water and spray hair with water to retain moisture grin emoticon
That’s a Simple regimen.. Thumbs up. Do you use Store bought products or you prefer DIY’s
I prefer DIY’s but I don’t have time to do them when i’m in school so, i stick to store bought products.
Okay..
Can you tell us what products you use?
I actually switch products grin emoticon . I used Vo5 shampoo n conditioner , tresemme conditioner, suave conditioner and Roushun ginseng shampoo n conditioner
That’s interesting.. Lol.
So did you face any negativity when you started the journey.. From family? Friends?
Thanks smile emoticon uhmmm
Yeah.. I did .. My friends didn’t understand why I decided to change my hair to the difficult texture .. Lol
My mum kept nagging about my hair saying it won’t attain many styles and that I don’t look like my age mates .. Lol smile emoticon but all these kept me going .. I love proving people wrong grin emoticon haha
Yea..that’s the spirit! What’s your go to style? Do you wear protective styles?
My go style is usually an Afro or an Afro puff when I’m lazy to do my hair or I wear a protective style usually box braids smile emoticon
Lately..long hair is the in thing for most nappy heads. How long is your hair? Are you crazy about long hair?
Lol.. I don’t really do the length check thing.. And I will say my hair keeps getting fuller and bigger ..
I’m not crazy about long hair .. I just want healthy hair ‘cos health brings length smile emoticon
Yea.. Health first! Does your hair have a name ?
Lol.. No please smile emoticon
What do you think about this Natural Hair Movement? Do you think it has come to stay?
The natural hair thing might be a movement for people whilst it’s a lifestyle for others ..
Obviously the natural hair movement which has created awareness among African women has come to stay because everyday someone is doing a big chop and returning natural and the companies that produce relaxers are also switching to natural hair products due to its demand ..
So yeah.. Its staying like emoticon
Yea! So what are the No no’s For your hair?
Grease.. Lmao ..
I hate that thing anywhere around my hair smile emoticon and some other scary DIY’s ..
Lol coke rinse oh .. Butter condition oh .. All those strange things people put in their hair Lol ..
I just can’t .. I keep it really simple smile emoticon
Haha… You are a comedian..lwkm!
Do you have a nightly routine for your hair? How do you take care of your hair before bed?
Lol .. grin emoticon grin emoticon
Yeah .. Depending on the style I put my hair in.
I spray with water and tie it in a silk scarf or band it first to fight shrinkage ..
Sometimes I apply a bit of whipped butter to seal smile emoticon
Okay… Its seems your more of a shrinkage fighter?
Haha.. I accept shrinkage sometimes smile emoticon
It’s inevitable,i guess.
If you were to talk to a group of black girls
(relaxed, texturized, transitioning and natural) on natural black hair.. What would you say?
I would say natural black hair is beautiful and unique ..
It is not difficult it just requires care and love. We should know that God doesn’t make mistakes too ..
There is a reason for our kinky hair texture…let’s embrace it smile emoticon ..
Everyone should choose what they want tho! ..
We should support each other and avoiding bringing our fellow blacks down ..
Power to we ladies! like emoticon
